Pastoral Prayer, Proper 12 B

Gracious God, who created out of love, you nourish us with words of life and blessing.  Turn our hearts to desire what you desire.  By your spirit, cultivate in us habits of peace and service so that our hands and feet are the hands and feet of Christ.

Holy Father, Father of Christ who taught us how to live, how to die, and how to live again, turn our eyes to you alone, that, aware of our own deepest longings, we will reach out with Christ to serve others with the miracle of your love.  Grant us hope in seeking your will and your way.  By the power of the Spirit, help us to disarm the oppressive, hateful, and arrogant powers of the world so that we may live in peace with one another with You as our foundation.

Sovereign Lord, who calls all to be your children, make us bold in asking, thankful in receiving, tireless in seeking, and joyful in finding.  Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal.  We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever as we continue to pray saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.
